How And Where To Use Theragun's Ergonomic Grips

If you have a history of struggling with back pain or muscle cramps after a workout, you might want to stick around.

The Theragun has truly shaken up the complex market of muscle recovery and relaxation technology. The brand is more dominantly recognised for its highly innovative implementation of percussion technology in its massage guns. A truly revolutionary piece of technology. Game-changing as it may be, let’s not forget an equally noteworthy feature of the device, its Ergonomic Grips.

“What could possibly be as good as percussion technology?”. Well, believe it or not, these ergonomic grips are quite versatile, according to Therabody’s (Theragun’s parent company) website the Theragun’s triangular grips “allows you to reach 80% of your body with multiple hand positions.” Allow me to clarify, the deliberate triangular shape of the Theragun’s handle, makes it so that you could singlehandedly massage 80% of your body. Singlehandedly. Yay, independence!

In the world of massage guns, you will notice that a significant amount of Theragun’s competitors share the same L-shaped grip design. In fact, if you look at any legitimate massage gun brand, you will realise that not a single one of them has adopted the same triangular shape as the Theragun. “Why is that?” you may ask. Well, that is because the signature, one-of-a-kind grip that most Theraguns possess, is as my description suggests, one-of-a-kind. Theragun has placed a patent on that unique triangular grip, which means no other companies are able to legally replicate it, hence, securing Theragun’s exclusivity.

There are an infinite number of ways to handle the Theragun. You could get yourself one, and experiment with it to determine your preferred grip. Though, if you're not one to experiment, fret not, you happen to be at the right place.

Let me introduce you to the 3 most common Theragun grips, as well as how, and where to use them:

Standard Grip

The standard grip of the Theragun is the most versatile. It is located along the same part of the device as the display, furthest from the arm of the Theragun. This grip is best for beginners and also provides easy access to device controls. So if you consider yourself a beginner, perhaps start simple with the standard grip.

Base Grip

The base grip, located furthest from the arm of the Theragun, allows you to comfortably extend your reach, in order to target the lower body. It’s designed to help you easily access and massage muscles such as your hamstrings, calves, and especially hard-to-reach areas like your upper back. If you're someone who struggles with constant back pain, this grip accompanied by a Theragun, would bring you instant relief.

Reverse Grip

Located closest to the arm of the Theragun, the reverse grip allows for easy access to the hard-to-reach areas of your upper body such as your shoulders and upper back. It allows you to massage your upper back muscles from an ideal 90-degree angle, as well as, offers you more control whilst massaging your shoulder. All in the spirit of maximum effectiveness. Begone muscle soreness!

Pretty simple isn't it? Nothing overwhelming, it’s efficient and user-friendly, a staple of all industry-leading products.

With this newfound knowledge you have obtained, allow me to reinforce it with some simple tips to take note of while using the Theragun:

Tip One

Before placing the Theragun on any part of your body, make sure to turn it on and adjust it to your desired setting.

Tip Two

While using the device, do not apply any force. Rest it gently on your body, move it slowly and allow it to glide right above your intended massage area. Let the motor do all the work.

Tip Three

While massaging knots and areas of tension, make sure to spend more time with them. Just take long deep breaths and feel that relief.

From ergonomic grips to simple tips, could you believe that we’ve barely even scratched the surface of the capabilities of the Theragun? With the technological complexity of a device like this, I fear a full rundown spanning the length of this page may not suffice. It's fortunate then, that Therabody has their very own established mobile application.

Let me elaborate, Therabody has an application that provides a generous set of services for users of its devices sub-brands. One of the application's services includes detailed and specific tutorials on how to use the Theragun. A few examples would include “Hip Flexor Recovery”, and, “Skiing & Snowboarding Recovery”.

Intriguing right? I think so too…

Get yourself a Theragun and explore the endless possibilities!
