Theragun Mini Plus or Theragun Prime Plus

Theragun Mini Plus or Theragun Prime Plus

With the release of Therabody's first heated-travel sized Theragun, I am sure many of you are wondering what the differences are between various Theraguns and which would suit you the best. Well, I’m here to help you answer that with the comparison of the Theragun Mini Plus and the Theragun Prime Plus.

The Portability

The Mini Plus remains true to its portable roots, measuring in at a mere 156mm x 115mm x 130mm, significantly smaller than the Theragun Prime Plus, coming in at 214mm x 153mm x 199mm.

The Theragun Prime Plus boasts Therabody’s patented triangle grip, which allows you to easily massage even the hard to reach places. The Mini Plus however, maintains a triangular shape but with a more ergonomic and comfortable grip thanks to its rounded edges.

The difference in shape is not only what makes the Theragun Mini Plus a more portable option than the Theragun Prime Plus. Both Theraguns are fitted with a travel lock, ensuring your Theragun would not be turned on accidentally. Additionally, the Theraguns are housed in padded travel cases which are able to hold the charger, the gun and its stock attachments. The best part? Under the lid of the pouch, basic information on each attachment is available so you’ll never have to guess which is which.

Types of Therapies Available

The Theragun Mini Plus only comes with one attachment, the Heated Percussive Plus. This attachment can also be used without the heating aspect, just merely turn off the heating button and use solely the speed button. With just one attachment, the Theragun Mini Plus is able to deliver two different types of massages, heated percussive and percussive.

The Theragun Prime Plus on the other hand comes with four handy attachments, including the heated percussive attachment available with the Theragun Mini Plus. In addition to that, we would also be getting the dampener, standard ball and wedge attachment, making this perfect for those who’d like a variety of massages on just one device.

Amplitude

Aside from the attachments available, there is also a significant difference between the amplitude of each device.  The Theragun Mini Plus has an amplitude of 10mm and a choice of three speeds while the Theragun Prime Plus has an amplitude of 16mm and 5 speeds, making the Theragun Prime Plus more customisable. While both are decent, the additional 6mm in the Theragun Prime Plus makes it ideal for deep tissue massages and the wider range of speeds gives you more control over your massages.

On the topic of deep tissue massages, the stall force of the Theragun Prime Plus is 2 times higher than that of the Theragun Mini Plus, coming in at 40lbs. This allows the Theragun Prime Plus to deliver a deeper massage without the motor stalling.

Compatibility

Both the Theragun Mini Plus and the Theragun Prime Plus are compatible with the entire line of Plus attachments, sold separately, expanding the possibilities of massages you could get with just one device.

If that’s not enough, both Theraguns are compatible with Coach by Therabody, an app that personalises your massage routines based on your lifestyle. Merely connect the Therabody app with Garmin, Strava or even Apple Health, to get massage sessions tailored to you. Coach Therabody goes as far as to recommend massage timings and settings based on the Theragun you own.

Comparisons

Overall, which Theragun you choose is highly dependent on your needs and lifestyle. Considering the difference in weight between the two Theraguns is only a little over 300g, the portability is heavily dependent on the size. If you want deeper, more intense and highly personalisable massages, I’m sure you wouldn't mind accommodating extra space for the Theragun Prime Plus. However, if you have a more hectic lifestyle and just want something to reduce stiffness and relieve soreness, the Theragun Mini Plus may suit your lifestyle better.
