Samsung Galaxy Smart Ring VS RingConn Gen 1&2
After almost a year since its initial release, the Samsung Galaxy Ring has finally made its way to Singapore.
Yes, we’ve done a comparison of the Galaxy Ring and RingConn before in our blog titled “Samsung Galaxy Ring vs RingConn Smart Ring” but that was before the RingConn Gen 2 joined the global Smart Ring market. Now, to mark the anticipated arrival of the Galaxy Ring, let’s get into this sequel of Samsung Galaxy Ring Vs RingConn Smart Ring.
Physicality
Dimensions & Weight
The whole purpose of owning a smart ring comes down to aesthetics and ease of use without having to compromise on functionality. Unlike smart watches, smart rings have more potential to look and feel better and less bulky.
So, as usual, we’ll get straight to the point.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring measures at a thickness of 2.6mm, a width of 7mm, and weighs 2.3g at its lightest. While it is thinner and lighter than the RingConn Gen 1, the RingConn Gen 2 stays undefeated where physicality is concerned.
If your aim of owning a smart device is to look good and feel comfortable while getting the data tracking functionalities of a smartwatch, then I think those numbers dictate that you’ll get the best of both worlds with the RingConn.
Software
Device & App Compatibility
The Galaxy Ring is only compatible with Samsung Galaxy smartphones with Android 11.0 and above. Its app compatibility is also only limited to local Samsung apps such as Samsung Health and Samsung Cloud. Both RingConn Gen 1 and Gen 2 however, can connect to Android and IOS devices using its proprietary RingConn app. An app available for download on both Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
Data Tracking
Unlike the RingConn, not all of Galaxy Ring’s data tracking offers 24/7 monitoring. Key biometrics such as respiration, blood oxygen and skin temperature are only recorded whilst asleep.
Other than that, the Samsung Galaxy Smart Ring also doesn't have a sleep apnea monitoring feature. Once again, the RingConn Gen 2 remains unique, across the industry, in this aspect.
Battery Life
While the battery life of up to 7 days on the RingConn Gen 1 and the Samsung Galaxy Ring is on par, to no surprise, the RingConn Gen 2 outlasts both with its battery life of 10-12 days.
Now that data only accounts for a single charge. Let’s include charging cases in this conversation.
The charging case of the Samsung Galaxy Ring has a battery life of up to 14 days with a total capacity of 2 ring recharges. Meanwhile, RignConn Gen 2’s charging case has about 150 days of battery life with a total capacity of 15-20 ring recharges.
Think about it this way. There are 365 days in a year, and every 150 days, your RingConn charging case requires a recharge. This means you’ll really only have to charge your device twice a year.
Pricing
Lastly, one of the most relevant topics of discussion as a consumer. Pricing.
The Galaxy Ring, first of its name, costs a whopping $538SGD. A price even larger than the current industry leader, and smart ring veteran, the Oura Gen 4.
The RingConn, Gen 1 costs $119 lesser than the Galaxy Ring at a price of $538 SGD while the Gen 2 costs $99 lesser at a price of $439 SGD.
Here's a side-by-side RingConn & Samsung Galaxy Ring Comparison:
Samsung is a well-established tech brand, and they’re no stranger to smart wearables. However let’s be honest here, while the brand holds superiority by 100% when it comes to smart watches, smart rings are a whole different ball game, one that RingConn is all too familiar with.
