RingConn Generation 2 Features
So, it seems, there's a new smart ring in town. Alright, maybe “new” might be an exaggeration for an established smart wearable like the RingConn. Thats right! The RingConn Gen 2 is nearly here and ready to add some bling to that finger. Of course, now comes the common question “What is that?” Well, I’m sure 18k of RingConn Gen 2’s crowdfunding backers would love to educate you on that, however, allow me. Now, before I proceed, for those who are already aware and are itching to get your fingers on the Gen 2, click here to sign up for a waitlist and be the first to know when the doors to pre-orders are wide open. Now, let’s dive right in.
The RingConn is a smart ring made to be worn 24/7 and its design has achieved just that. With the ultra-light weight of this device, its astonishingly long battery life, as well as its inconspicuously elegant design, it's barely noticeable once you've gotten used to it. Unlike smartwatches, discomfort will not be an issue here. That said, when it comes to tangible objects like rings, watches, shoes, or clothes, superficial qualities are what’s perceived at first glance. So, let's talk appearance.
Design
First of all, do you see that new glossy finish of the Future Silver and Royal Gold rings? Was it blinding? Sure. Am I still completely obsessed with it? Absolutely.
Physicality
This new and improved version of the RingConn holds the title of the thinnest and lightest smart ring to date. With the previous thinnest and lightest smart ring measuring at 2.2mm in thickness, the RingConn Gen 2 surpasses this by a thickness, or rather, thinness of a staggering 2mm and weighs as light as 2 grams. “Featherlight”, as one would say.
Build
Now, let’s not forget the build quality of this device. The exterior of the Gen 2 is made of hypoallergenic aerospace-grade titanium alloy. At the same time, the inside is coated by medical-grade epoxy, with the interest of accurate skin contact and data collection in mind.
Battery Life
Ah, yes, battery life, the one view we, the human race, collectively agree upon. Always. More. Power. Don’t worry, Gen 2’s got you.
With a battery life of 10-12 days on the Gen 2 ring itself - without charging whatsoever- and a total of 15-20 charges on the portable charging case, the RingConn Gen 2 can sustain itself for more than 150 days without having to be plugged in. In the world of smart rings, this device in particular, holds the title of longest battery life.
Yup, being the thinnest and lightest smart ring isn't the only crown the Gen 2 wears.
“How could something that small hold so much battery life?” An excellent question! Thanks to RingConn’s advanced power management, the device is able to optimize the ring’s functionality [e.g. sensors].
Furthermore, Gen 2 uses advanced sensors like PPG and temperature sensors, both, able to accurately track health metrics like heart rate and sleep while consuming as little power as possible.
IP68 Rating
Did you think that was it? No way. With how this ring was designed and manufactured, it is for sure water resistant. “What does an IP68 rating even mean?” Well, it means that the Gen 2 is capable of reaching depths of up to 100m in water. All you swimmers out there, RingConn says “You're welcome”.
Shiny, elegant, seamless, robust and waterproof? I’m in heaven.
Now that we’ve established the impeccable physical build of the RingConn Gen 2, let’s get into the nitty-gritty. Just how smart is this smart ring?
Software
Health tracking is RingConn’s most significant capability. With the device’s efficient sensors, it is able to accurately track health metrics such as sleep, activity, stress level, vital signs, menstrual cycles, and even possible signs of sleep apnea. The Gen 2 is able to do all this while consuming minimal power and taking up very little space. Queue the jaw drop.
Sleep Apnea Monitoring
The newest, most significant addition to the Gen 2 is its ability to monitor sleep apnea. On a serious note, over 1 billion adults have been affected by sleep apnea, a condition that increases the risks of hypertension and heart disease. Scary stuff.
Furthermore, a 2016 Straits Times article titled “One in three Singaporeans suffers from sleep apnoea: Study”, states that, “The study, by Jurong Health Services, also showed that despite its prevalence, the condition is often under-diagnosed. Up to 90 per cent of moderate to severe sleep apnoea subjects in the study were previously undiagnosed.”
The RingConn Gen 2 is the first ever smart ring to feature an integrated sleep apnea monitoring function, a revolutionary feat in the world of wearable technology. Truly a marvel.
Sleep Tracking
The sleep health factors in question, include sleep efficiency, sleep stages & time asleep, sleeping Heart Rate [bpm & HRV], blood oxygen saturation [SpO2], as well as, sleeping skin temperature. Gathering all that data, RingConn’s AI will process it to determine your overall sleep score.
Activity Tracking
The activity tracking feature records your steps, calories burned, standing duration, activity intensity, activity intensity ratio, and exercise record. It even provides you with an activity summary.
In the RingConn app, you will be able to select exercises such as outdoor running, indoor running, outdoor cycling, and outdoor walking. All of the data from any recorded exercise will be recorded and displayed under this activity tracking feature.
Stress Tracking
RingConn’s stress tracking records your all-day stress index, stress ratio, and sleeping stress. At the end, you will be provided with your stress summary of the day, as well as, the week, if you’ve worn it consistently long enough.
Vital Signs
Similar to all the other metrics, to accurately determine a wearer's vital signs, several sets of data will have to be recorded such and heart rate, blood oxygen level and heart rate variability.
Ever wondered why you feel so worn out all the time? Perhaps stress might be a contributing factor. Pretty sure a certain smart ring could help you with that. *Wink* *Wink*
Period Tracking
As for the period forecast feature, the RingConn provides help and elevated convenience for any period having individuals out there. For those who this feature was made for, it keeps track of your menstrual cycle. The Gen 2 is capable of predicting when your cycle starts and even possible periods of ovulation. Name something cooler than that. You can’t.
“Hold on, these are all great features and all, but, I’m not willing to pay for a RingConn subscription every month.” Hey, I get it, neither am I. I guess it's good then, that the RingConn doesn't require a subscription. Yup, that’s right, just like its predecessor, the Gen 1, the RingConn app is completely free! Just get yourself the ring and you’re set!
This incredible piece of innovation is so close to being available, that I could almost feel it. to prevent possible implosion from eager excitement, do yourself a favour and sign up for that waitlist mentioned earlier.
So, what say you get yourself a shiny new gift?
